  21. MED#1 System requirements:
  22. ---------------------------
  23.         MS-DOS 2.0 (or greater)
  24.         640k of memory (* required)
  25.         Monochrome (or color) monitor
  26.         (1) 5 1/4" floppy disk drive (for loading of software)
  27.         (1) hard disk drive (for program and data files)
  28.         (1) printer (any dot matrix)
  29.  
  30.         NO SPECIAL FORMS ARE REQUIRED. ALL REPORTS WILL BE
  31.         PRINTED ON 8 1/2" X 11" STANDARD STOCK PAPER.
  32.  
  33.         (Note - MED#1 is a single user system and is not qualified for
  34.          multi-user, or network, usage.)

  53. Steps to follow for primary system installation:
  54. ------------------------------------------------
  55.         1. Make a backup of the MED#1 distribution disks and store
  56.            the originals in a save place. Use the newly created
  57.            backup disks for all following installation instructions.
  58.  
  59.         2. Check to insure that you have a 'CONFIG.SYS' file in your
  60.            root directory with the following MINIMUM values:
  61.  
  62.            FILES = 20
  63.            BUFFERS = 8
  64.  
  65.            If you do not have a 'CONFIG.SYS' file, or it does not
  66.            contain these minimum values, consult your DOS manual on
  67.            how to create/modify your 'CONFIG.SYS' file.
  68.  
  69.            (Note - MED#1 will not operate properly, and may crash, if
  70.             your 'CONFIG.SYS' file does not exist with these values.
  71.             If you needed to create, or modify, your 'CONFIG.SYS' file
  72.             be sure that you  reboot your system before you continue.
  73.             Your system only reads the values contained in your
  74.             'CONFIG.SYS' file at initial system boot.)

  76.         3. From your root directory create a sub-directory that will
  77.            contain your MED#1 program and data files.  The following
  78.            DOS command will create a sub-directory called "MED1".
  79.  
  80.                 C>MD\MED1 <return>
  81.  
  82.         4. Once you have created the sub-directory, select the new
  83.            sub-directory by entering:
  84.  
  85.                 C>CD\MED1 <return>
  86.  
  87.         5. Insert MED#1 distribution disk #1 into drive A. Copy the
  88.            contents of drive A into the newly created MED1 sub-
  89.            directory by entering the following DOS command:
  90.  
  91.                 C>COPY A:*.* <return>
  92.  
  93.            Remove disk from drive A upon completion.
  94.  
  95.            Repeat  this  process  for disk #2  (and  disk  #3  if 
  96.            provided).

  98.         6. Print  your  user manual and read  before  going  any 
  99.            further (user manual will be found only on disk #3):
  100.  
  101.                 a: turn on your printer
  102.                 b: enter C>MANUAL  <return>
  103.

  106. Steps to follow for installation of upgrades and new versions:
  107. --------------------------------------------------------------
  108.         1. Make a backup of the MED#1 distribution disks and store
  109.            the originals in a save place. Use the newly created
  110.            backup disks for all following installation instructions.
  111.  
  112.         2. Backup  your current data files. It is  possible  that            
  113.            new  versions  of MED#1 will require  modification  of 
  114.            your  current data files. This file  modification  (if 
  115.            needed)  will be performed for you upon  your  initial 
  116.            loading  of  the new MED#1 program. To provide  you  a 
  117.            safe  point  of  recovery in case  of  any  unexpected 
  118.            problems  you  should  always make a  backup  of  your 
  119.            current data files prior executing any new version  of 
  120.            MED#1.

  123.         3. Select your MED#1 sub-directory by entering:
  124.  
  125.                 C>CD\MED1 <return>
  126.  
  127.         4. Insert MED#1 distribution disk #1 into drive A. Copy the
  128.            contents of drive A into the newly created MED1 sub-
  129.            directory by entering the following DOS command:
  130.  
  131.                 C>COPY A:*.* <return>
  132.  
  133.            Remove disk from drive A upon completion.
  134.  
  135.            Repeat  this  process  for disk #2  (and  disk  #3  if 
  136.            provided).

  138.         5. Load MED#1 by entering:
  139.  
  140.                C>MED1 <return>
  141.  
  142.            Upon  initial  load of MED#1 any files needing  to  be 
  143.            modified will automatically be upgraded by MED#1.

  147. *  Note:  If you are currently a user of Version 1.03,  1.04,  or 
  148. 1.05  upon  installation  of Version 1.06 you will be requested to
  149. to run MED_UPDT.EXE. This program will update your old files to the
  150. new formats required by version 1.06.

  155. ALL COPIES OF MED#1 WILL INITIALLY LOAD AS 'UNREGISTERED' HAVING A 100
  156. PATIENT LIMIT. THIS PATIENT LIMIT WILL BE REMOVED UPON THE ENTRY
  157. OF A VALID 'USER REGISTRATION NUMBER' INTO YOUR PRACTICE DATA. THIS
  158. 'USER REGISTRATION NUMBER' IS UNIQUE TO EACH USER AND IS PROVIDED TO
  159. THE USER UPON RECEIPT OF A FULLY PAID AND PROPERLY FILLED OUT
  160. REGISTRATION FORM. WHEN YOU SEND IN THIS FORM CHECK TO INSURE THAT
  161. YOUR PRACTICE NAME IS ENTERED EXACTLY AS YOU WISH IT TO BE  - ANY
  162. CHANGES IN ENTERING YOUR PRACTICE NAME WILL INVALIDATE YOUR UNIQUE
  163. REGISTRATION NUMBER.

  173.          corrections for these problems for a modest shipping and

  186. REGISTERING YOUR COPY OF MED#1:
  187. ----------------------------------

  189.      After  you've worked with the un-registered  package 
  190. of MED#1, and decide you want full access to the  system, 
  191. follow these simple steps to register:
  192.  
  193.      1.  Enter the (A)pplication support section  of  the 
  194. UTILITIES  sub-menu, select '(U)pdate practice data'  and 
  195. verify  that  the information displayed  is  correct  and 
  196. entered  exactly  as you want it to be displayed  in  all 
  197. usages.
